TOLEDO BEND FISHING TOURNAMENTS

Toledo Bend is the largest man-made body of water in the South, and the fifth largest in surface acres in the United States. From the dam site, the reservoir extends 65 miles upriver to Logansport, Louisiana, and inundates land in Sabine, Shelby, Panola, and Newton Counties in Texas, and Sabine and DeSoto Parishes in Louisiana. LAKE SAM RAYBURN FISHING TOURNAMENTS

HISTORIC MUSEUMS

HISTORIC JAIL MUSEUM

The jail was built in 1904 and was used by Sabine County until 1982. One of two jails in Texas that had a hanging rope. Now known as the Sabine County Jail Museum and Vergie Speights Memorial Library. The jail is rich in history, rare books for viewing, and many interesting exhibits. View the rope used for hanging and the trap door. Open Wednesday – Saturday, 9am – 2pm. Explore more…

PATRICIA HUFFMAN SMITH NASA “REMEMBERING COLUMBIA” MUSEUM

The PHS Museum tour takes you on a journey through Columbia’s first historical flight of STS-1 through its last mission of STS-107. It also provides a glimpse of the recovery of Columbia and the Crew of STS-107, along with the two who lost their lives in the recovery efforts. This museum has many items and artifacts from NASA and its contractors, the families of the crew of STS-107, as well as from other individuals. Explore more…

NATIONAL FORESTS

Located in the heart of east Texas, the 153,179-acre Angelina National Forest is located in Angelina, Nacogdoches, San Augustine and Jasper counties. The forest lies in the Neches River Basin and on the north and south shores of Sam Rayburn Reservoir, a 114,500-acre lake on the Angelina River formed by the construction of Sam Rayburn Dam in the early 1960’s. SABINE NATIONAL FOREST​

Located in the pineywoods of east Texas, the 160,656-acre Sabine National Forest is the easternmost of the four national forests in Texas and forms part of the boundary between Texas and Louisiana.
